Matthew Harris is a lifelong resident of the Hempstead community and a dedicated advocate for gun violence prevention, community outreach, and youth empowerment. With years of hands-on experience working directly with individuals and families impacted by violence, Matthew has committed his life’s work to preventing shootings and reducing acts of harm through mentorship, education, and intervention.

Matthew has served on the front lines of community-based violence prevention efforts, collaborating with local organizations, service providers, and justice system partners to address trauma, promote accountability, and create pathways to healing and opportunity. His work is rooted in restorative practices, conflict resolution, and trauma-informed approaches that prioritize safety, dignity, and long-term change.

He holds multiple certifications and specialized trainings in violence interruption, crisis intervention, restorative justice, trauma-informed care, and youth development. Driven by a deep love for Hempstead and its people, Matthew remains committed to building safer neighborhoods, strengthening community trust, and empowering the next generation to choose peace over violence.
